About Women’s College Hospital
For more than 100 years Women’s College Hospital (WCH) has been developing revolutionary advances in healthcare. Today, WCH is a world leader in the health of women and Canada’s leading, academic ambulatory hospital. A champion of equitable access, WCH advocates for the health of all women from diverse cultures and backgrounds and ensures their needs are reflected in the care they receive. It focuses on delivering innovative solutions that address Canada’s most pressing issues related to population health, patient experience and system costs. The WCH Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) is developing new, scalable models of care that deliver improved outcomes for patients and sustainable solutions for the health system as a whole.
Women’s College Research Institute (WCRI) is tackling some of the greatest health challenges of our time. Its scientists are conducting global research that advances the health of women and improves healthcare options for all, and are then translating those discoveries to provide much-needed improvements in healthcare worldwide.

Revolutionizing the health of women and families
Women’s College Hospital opened its doors in 1911 as the first hospital in Canada run by and for women, at a time when women were not allowed practice medicine.
Over 100 years later, the hospital’s founding values of bold leadership and innovation have continued to drive its evolution. WCH is now among the most advanced, forward-thinking healthcare institutions in the world focused on revolutionizing the health of women.
What are we doing differently?
We’re delivering relationship-centred care that champions equity and diversity. We’re exploring and understanding the differences between women and men to provide better health options for everyone. We’re translating groundbreaking discoveries into life-saving new treatments that are keeping women and families healthy and well. And we’re developing cutting-edge new solutions for the health system as a whole to improve care while reducing costs.
At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to helping patients get home to their families sooner and recover faster. As Canada’s leading ambulatory – or outpatient – hospital, we’re delivering care differently so that patients don’t have to stay overnight.
How is all of this possible? Because we’ve built the Hospital of the Future, the new home of Women’s College Hospital and the manifestation of our vision to transform the health system for women and for all. The new facility fully integrates research, teaching, clinics and surgery under one roof, providing world-leading outpatient care within a supportive and welcoming environment.
Better healthcare for women and their families. That’s the Women’s College Hospital difference.
