Between September 17- 27, over 1,900 UNSTOPPABLE community members took to the Toronto streets to go the distance for women’s mental health by participating in the annual Run for Women presented by the Shoppers Drug Mart LOVE. YOU. Program.

Supporting the Women’s Mental Health Program at Women’s College Hospital (WCH), the 10-day virtual event raised a record-breaking $338,000! This marks the eighth year that the Toronto Run for Women has generously supported Women’s College Hospital, and brings the total amount raised by the event to over $1 million!

The Toronto run was part of an 18 city pan Canadian event for local women’s mental health charities and although participants couldn’t gather together in person this year, runners and walkers from across the country tuned into the first-ever Run for Women national live broadcast on Sunday, September 28th. Hosted by iHeart Radio’s Meredith Shaw, who did the broadcast from outside WCH, the broadcast shared moving stories from patients across the country whose lives have been changed while showcasing each of the 18 running/walking routes which laced everyone together in support of women’s mental health.

“Funds raised here in Toronto by the Run for Women are helping to ensure we can continue to research the most effective ways of engaging our patients in treatment and giving them the highest quality care available,” says Dr. Simone Vigod, our chief of psychiatry. “Through this work, we can reach more women, break down more barriers to care, and help to reduce the stigma that may be holding women back from receiving the care and support they need and deserve.”

For Jennifer Bernard, president and CEO of Women’s College Hospital Foundation, the event was an inspiring success. “I am completely blown away and overwhelmed by the response from our community,” she says. “On behalf of Women’s College Hospital and WCH Foundation, I am proud to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who registered and donated to the Run for Women, and to Shoppers Drug Mart for their generosity, leadership and commitment to women’s health. Thank you for helping to create hope and healing for women at a time when the world has turned upside down and women need our help and support more than ever.”
